Introduction

Crop nutrients in the form of biosolids are a valuable and beneficial amendment to crop land when utilized correctly. Current EPA regulations have resulted in the production of high quality biosolids well suited for application to agricultural land.

Utilizing organic nutrients requires special considerations discussed in this bulletin. Extension agents, municipal waste applicators, landowners, and professionals who work with crop nutrients can utilize this information when biosolids are applied to meet crop nutrient needs. The aid of a biosolid analysis and soil test will allow applicators to accurately account for the nutrients being supplied. Accounting for organic nutrients applied to crop land allows producers to minimize applications of unnecessary commercial fertilizers. Following the steps discussed in this bulletin will help in protecting our environment. For additional information on plant nutrient needs or the application of biosolids, contact your local OSU Agriculture/Natural Resources Extension agent.

Note: The words "biosolids," "sewage sludge," and "sludge" are used interchangeably in this bulletin.
