for You:
Everyone has experienced
the AGONY of inputting reports into the Unified Reporting System (URS).
However, few have yet to realize the THRILL of searching the URS database.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT is one of the goals of URS. Anyone who has logged
onto URS can also search to see what others are doing, and thus have input
for developing programs. How?
On the URS entry portal,
the one with the big green YES and big red
NO, scroll down the right hand column titled,
REPORTS. Click on the Reports and Queries button, and log on normally.
At the Authorized Reports, click on Go. You can now search on Extension
Programs/ Projects by again clicking on the Go. Choose the desired
year (2001 probably has the most data now, but if people are reporting,
the 2002 data will be the most current). You can search on Key Words,
Text Search, or Plan of Action Program Project.
There are three levels of
reports possible, depending on how much detail you want. Once URS
generates the results of your queries, you can use COPY and PASTE to transfer
items of interest to your own word processing documents. Try it!!

Treva
Williams is the Family and Consumer Science/Community
Development Agent and Chair in Scioto County. The impact of her child
care training programs is showing...
Program
Description:
Scioto
County Type B family child care providers are required to have several
additional hours of training each year. The Scioto County Department
of Job and Family Services recognizes OSU Extension as a reputable educational
provider and has partnered with us to offer a mininum of 6 two-hour workshops
each year. Child care providers are certified through the DJFS. Youth participating
in the 8-hour babysitting training developed and taught in Scioto County
learn the basics of asset development, child development, play activiites,
responsibilities, safety and first aid. This training better prepares young
babysitters as they begin their work careers.
Program
Impact:
As
a result of the training, 19 child care providers indicated they had increased
the number of reading based activities they conduct with children in their
care. A total of 8 new child care providers participated in enough total
hours of training to receive their local certification due to attending
workshops offered by OSU Extension professionals. As a result of attending
the Babysitting Basic training, 93% of the participants increased their
knowledge of how to handle an emergency situation. 96% of the participants
indicated they felt better prepared to be a babysitter as a result of attending
the training sessions sponsored by OSU Extension.
This
program description and impact statement was taken from URS.
PDETip:
Those
Extension personnel, who want to conduct a survey, and whose respondents
are all e-mail and web users, should think about doing an on-line survey.
The Program Development and Evaluation Unit has on-line software services
available. The advantages of this method include no postage, no copying,
and no data entry. Reminders can be readily sent and descriptive
results in table format are available while the survey is in progress.
Data can also be downloaded for more sophisticated analysis in statistical
software. If you have an electronic version of your survey, and e-mail
addresses of potential respondents, contact us. We could also place
links on web pages so that users of your web pages can be surveyed.
