a Hay harvests are taken during the summer harvest season.
b Stockpile harvests are taken in December and February. Half of the plot was harvested in December, the remaining half in February.
* Maturity rated on 5-12-1999 -- 1 = vegitative, 2 = early boot, 3 = initial emergence of inflorescense, 4 = complete emergence of inflorescense from boot.
c Orchard grass variety.
d EF - Seed source is 100% free of endophyte fungus.
e EI - Seed source is infected with the endophyte fungus.
Endophyte = A fungus that lives within the fescue plants but does not affect the appearance of the grass. A laboratory analysis is required to detect its presence because it is only transmitted by seed, thus if an endophyte free stand is established, it will remain non infected unless infected seed germinates and becomes established.
Seeded with a no-till Truax drill (in killed sod) at 10 lb/a, 100 lb/a of 0-45-0 at planting, and 55 lb/a of 34-0-0 on 10/11/95. Sod was killed with 2qt/a of Roundup ultra and 17lb/100 gal of ammonia sulfate.
Rilden silt loam, pH = 6.1, P = 40, K = 118 (4/95).
60 lb/a of 34-0-0 (amonia nitrate) on 31 March 1999; 60 lb/a of 34-0-0 on 30 Sept. 1999.
