>Colleagues:
>
>	You have undoubtedly heard about the "Blue Ribbon" panel that ASHS
President Dr. Wanda Collins has assembled to seek ASHS membership input
regarding the ASHS annual meetings (see Jan 1998, Oct 1997 ASHS
>Newsletter). The Panel is chaired by Dr. Dale Maronek, Okla State Univ.
I have been asked to participate on this panel.
>
>	Briefly, the Panel is charged with preparing a membership survey and
seeking input regarding the annual meeting and other membership concerns.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. In order to formulate survey questions, I am asking
that you submit your questions and concerns so that they may be included in
the survey. Also, I welcome your other comments, ideas or suggestions. To
help formulate appropriate questions or frame your concerns, below is what
President Collins has asked the Panel to accomplish.
>
>
>	The Charge of the Panel is:
>1) To offer the opportunity for Members to provide input and suggestions
regarding all facets of the Annual Conference,
>2) To review current costs, frequency, structure, quality, scope, format,
scheduling, and organization of the Annual Conference, and recommend
appropriate changes and improvements,
>3) To identify ways to capitalize on the locale of Conferences, to develop
special programs that tie into local issues, to enhance member interest in
local agriculture matters, and to make better use of publicity available in
the locale so that the activities of the Society become better know to the
public at large,
>4) To explore ideas for improving international coverage, collaboration,
and participation in our (ASHS) programs, and,
>5) To explore ideas for improving our conferences to appeal to Members,
especially those who are employees of Industrial and commercial companies.
>
>+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
>
>	The January 1998 Newsletter suggested that the deadline for submitting
your questions or concerns was January 25. If you were like me, you didn't
even get that issue until February 1. So, we are extending the deadline.
You may mail your questions to ASHS HQ by FEBRUARY 15, or I welcome you
sending your questions or concerns directly to me, either by return e-mail
or surface mail. If you send me your comments, rest assured that they will
be heard and any request for confidentiality or anonymity will be highly
respected.
>
>	I welcome your questions, comments, suggestions and ideas. Please let
yourself be heard and take advantage of this opportunity to be a part of the
ASHS planning process as we continue to move forward to become a better
Society to serve the membership and discipline of horticulture at large.
>
>	I look forward to hearing from you. I apologize if some of you received
more than one copy of this - you are just on lots of lists. You can respond
as often as you'd like.
