Subject: coneflower

Hello,
Just a quick question about cultivation of coneflower(all types).
According to package instructions on my echinacea seed packs ,I cold
treated the types paradoxa and tennesseenis for 60 days in my
refrigerator, about 40 degrees.I packed them in moist fine vermiculite in a
plastic bag, when I took them out yesterday to plant them in flats some of
the seed was very soft and it looked like some small amounts of mold were
on the seed.Does anyone have any idea if these may germinate,is this
normal,or are they rotted?I did the same with Ginko seed and the had some
mold on them also. Was the vermiculite to wet,or should I have used another
medium to stratify the seed? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,Howard Effron
