POSITION:	Regional Extension Specialist (Commercial Greenhouse) Adams County,
 Brighton, CO

This position is located in and administered through Adams County in cooperation
 with the surrounding counties of Weld, Morgan, Washington, Arapahoe,
Denver, Jefferson, and Boulder, along with the Colorado Greenhouse
Growers Association, and the Colorado Floriculture Foundation.  As
long as these funds are available, the individual selected will have
all the rights and privileges afforded a professional extension
worker in Colorado under normal extension funding.  Approximately 70%
of the total greenhouse space in Colorado is concentrated in these
counties (12 million square feet).

DEADLINE:	Currently vacant.  Application (organizational application form required)
 and transcripts of college course work must be received or
postmarked no later than November 18, 1998.  Transcripts must show
proof of degree(s) conferred.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To plan, coordinate, and assist in a variety of horticulture
 educational programs relating to the commercial greenhouse industry.
 To assist and advise commercial greenhouse operators in the service
area counties by providing technical support, diagnostics and field
calls in the areas of floriculture and vegetable production.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATIONSHIPS: The individual in this position works as a
 member of a team of professionals, under the supervision and
guidance of the County Extension Director, and is a local
representative of Colorado State University.  The successful
candidate will:

conduct research and/or demonstrations in commercial greenhouse production in cooperation
with the Colorado State University Greenhouse Crop Specialist;
compile, summarize and distribute results of research or
demonstration projects to greenhouse growers;

plan and conduct educational programs regarding greenhouse related
activities;

cooperate and coordinate program activities with Colorado State University
Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, other
Extension Horticulturists, and the Extension Greenhouse Crop
Specialist;

coordinate a local Advisory Committee comprised of greenhouse growers within the service area;

prepare newsletters, brochures, and other materials with emphasis on commercial greenhouse programs;

conduct a weather data program; maintain solimeter,, record data daily during winter months;
 coordinate with Agricultural Research, Development and Education
Center efforts; and distribute data regularly to greenhouse growers.

evaluate program effectiveness based on grower feedback;

cooperate and coordinate program and committee activities with the Colorado Greenhouse
 Growers Association, the Colorado Floriculture Fouhdation, and other
organizations;

possibly instruct at the collegiate level at Colorado State University and related
 horticultural institutions;

assist with County Fair Flower Show activities.

provide leadership and assistance with other activities as assigned.

SALARY:	The organizational annual, minimum base salary for the Grade EA-5
position is $28,400.  Starting salary for the successful applicant
beyond this base will be determined by adding to the base for
additional relevant, professional experience and formal training
beyond the master's degree to a level comparable to current extension
staff in this grade.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED
·	Master's degree in horticulture required, Ph.D. preferred, with emphasis in greenhouse
 crop production, and/or related fields.
·	Skill in working with people as individuals, groups, and staff (teamwork) to accomplish
 individual and/or group goals as indicated by experience and
references.
 ·	Evidence of drive and initiative as demonstrated by
elected and appointed positions of responsibility.
 ·	Leadership ability as demonstrated by elected and appointed
positions of responsibility. Ability to communicate verbally and in
writing as demonstrated by formal training experience and application
materials.
·	Knowledge of the principles of horticulture.
 ·	Computer literacy as demonstrated by evidence of computer use in
program development, delivery and/or management.

DESIRABLE
·	Knowledge of Cooperative Extension and the land grant university system.
·	Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an interest in working
 with people from diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to the
principles of diversity.
 ·	Experience in audience needs identification and evaluating results
of programs and projects.
·	Teaching experience.
 ·	Current training and experience in research/demonstration
procedures.
 ·	Academic and/or professional experience in conducting
field demonstrations and applied /adaptive research and applying
economic factors to recommendations and/or technical information.

BENEFITS:	Twenty-four working days vacation each year, 15 days sick leave
 with full pay per year accumulative, group health, life and accident
