| Hello,
Did everyone get the pamphlet for the July Workshop? If not, please
find a copy of it in this newsletter. Next, please fill out the
registration form and mail it with your check to Laura!
This two-day event will cost the OAA around $10,000.00 to produce.
Your Board of Director’s goal is to make a good profit to help
strengthen the OAA treasury. So, as you can see, for this to be a
success, the membership is going to have to exhibit unprecedented
support.
Please register early so we can order the correct amount of supplies.
As you look over the fee schedule you will see that early registion
saves considerable money. Registration is on a first come, first serve
basis and may have to be limited.
The value of the two-days of workshops, the fish fry, the trade show,
the tour of Domer’s and all that great networking with those other
producers, is worth far more than the $90.00 fee for an OAA Member to
register in advance.
Well, as you may have seen, I am just a little obsessed with the July
Workshop, but I do need to go on and try to update you on a few things
that I mentioned in the last newsletter.
The Ohio Aquaculture Task Force Summary is finished but not in print
yet. My Co-Chair, Deputy Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture,
Jim Buchy is working on a letter from Governor Taft and a letter from
the Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture to be included in it.
Working with limited time and resources we were not very effective at
obtaining finical support from the Ohio Legislature. In all fairness,
this was the worst year in resent history to attempt to obtain new
funding for anything, with the school fund issue taking up so much of
the State’s resources. I do hope we are better prepared in two years
when we get to try again. The OAA did make a few good friends that
wanted to help us, and in time they will.
We did receive a $5,000.00 grant from the Ohio Rural Rehabilitation
Advisory Board. These funds will be used for membership development
related activities.
Your Board has made application for a $2,500.00 grant to help defer
some of the cost of the July Workshop. We will hear if it will be funded
after the first of July.
November nine and ten will be the dates for our Annual Meeting. This
will be Friday and Saturday, not Saturday and Sunday as I stated in the
last newsletter. At this meeting we will elect the officers to lead the
OAA for the next two years. Please plan to attend and vote for the good
of the association.
If I can be of any assistance, please contact me any time. My contact
information is on the front page of this newsletter and I encourage you
to use it!
Respectfully,
George Hood
