The Ohio Soil Health Card is stimulated by the Wisconsin Soil Health Scorecard, which was developed from structured interviews with farmers. The central question in the interviews was ‘How do you recognize a healthy soil?’ The scorecard is based on farmer knowledge, maintains the priorities expressed by farmers, and retains the language used by participating farmers. It is intended as a tool to be used by farmers to assess the health of their soils, indicate the development of potential problems, and monitor improvement or deterioration over time.
