Richland County
Agriculture
Richland County
has been known historically for its agriculture. The county
has a diverse agricultural base ranging from livestock to greenhouse
plants. The livestock industry is not as large as it once
was, but dairy, beef, pork and chicken production is still represented
in the county. There is also a growing green industry with
several landscape nurseries and greenhouses providing bedding plants
to shrubs for gardeners. Field crops are still an important
part of agriculture in Richland County, however land normally used
in producing grain and forages is giving way to urban development.
Less than fifty percent of the land is now in production. Many
farmers are diversifying their farming operations and turning to alternative
crops and enterprises to make the farm lifestyle sustainable.

Ohio
Timber Price Report Returns
Last year the USDA decided to stop producing the
Ohio Timber Price Report as a cost cutting measure. With
leadership from OSU Extension, OARDC and the Ohio Division of
Forestry the Price Report is now available again. This Report
provides a range of values for standing timber and logs that serve
as a reference for landowners and the industry. The Price Report
can be found
at the following web site:
The report is also available on the Woodland Stewards
web site in a printable pdf version
