Research interests:

I’m especially interested in the seeds of tropical tree species. As a result of the deforestation process in Brazil, huge forests have been converted into cities or plantations, resulting in serious impacts at our environment. As a way to revert this situation, several restoration projects have been conduced in Brazil, mainly at São Paulo State, where hundreds of different tree species have been planted into depredated areas. However, we still don’t know how to handle most of our tree species seeds, especially because of seeds dormancy and recalcitrance. Thus, I’m aiming to develop the technology to use these seeds for forest restoration purposes and, at the same time, I’m studying the importance of these mechanisms for plant survival in tropical regions.
