Meat Pen of Rabbits

Tattooing of Meat Pen Rabbits will be on Saturday, August 26, from 10:00 a.m.—Noon at the Extension office parking lot.

Secretary/Treasurer Books

Secretary books should run from the beginning of the current 4-H year until the fair. The treasurer’s books should have a fiscal year of September 1, 2005, through August 31, 2006.

When turned in at the fair, all books should be complete and the treasurer’s book audited and final. Club name, officer’s name and age need to be on the front cover.

Livestock Bedding

Each exhibitor is responsible for the proper bedding of their livestock project.  The three recommended beddings for the 2006 fair will be straw, mulch, and wood shavings. There will be no stock piling of bedding and several vendors will have baled shavings for sale on the grounds. We would like to suggest that each exhibitor take all steps to ensure that clean bedding is under their animal at all times throughout the week. In some cases, it is necessary to spread livestock lime, then shavings, and then straw or mulch to absorb the urine and the ammonia odor. Cleaning of pens is essential.

Cleanliness is important! Keeping the pen and area around it clean and dry is very important. Sweeping is an essential part of your animal project. This process needs to be done more than once a day and is everyone’s responsibility. We want to send a positive message regarding the care of animals to all fair-goers and prospective buyers. Large crowds view the barns in the evening, so keep the pens clean. Another part of care is to be the animals have feed and water in containers that won’t spill or tip. Cleanliness and care is a constant job while your animal is at the fair.

ALL pens must be completely cleaned out by 8:00 p.m. Sunday or immediately following the loading out of your market livestock. Exhibitors will be notified of any changes in this status.
