Course Description:

Plant Pathology 703: Agricultural Genomics: Principles and Applications

Biology has now entered the era of genomics as a large amount of DNA sequence and gene expression data is rapidly accumulating in public databases. The recent successful completion of genome sequences of several important plants and many plant and animal microbe species has opened the opportunity for more genomes of agriculturally important organisms to be unraveled in the near future. How to use and apply genomics and bioinformatics tools in agriculture will be a major challenge for all new biotechnologists and microbiologists. In PP703, we will review the principles of most genomics techniques, new developments in the field and emphasize their application in agriculture. We also have opportunities for students to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of many new genomic technologies in the class. PP703 is part of the course requirement list for the Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (PMBB) Graduate Program at OSU.
